Fall Sports Are On. Bring the Mouthguard to Recare.

September 10, 20266 min read

Fall sports do not wait on a dental calendar. Practice starts, the gym bag fills up, and the mouthguard that fit in August sits in a side pocket until something hurts.

A recare visit in September or October is the quiet fix. Families at Smile Dentistry in Fishers, Simply Smile in Carmel, and Simply Smile in North Indy — the three offices of Indy Smile Group — can use the same cleaning and exam they already need, and have the guard, retainer, or aligners checked while they are in the chair.

Why the mouthguard belongs at recare

A sports mouthguard only works if it still fits. Growth, a new chip, a tighter bite, or a guard that has been chewed thin will not show up in a gym-bag glance. Bring it. We would rather see a worn guard at recare than after a weekend tournament.

The same visit is the right time to bring a retainer or current aligners. Fit and wear are part of the exam, not a separate appointment.

We do not quote what a plan will pay for a guard from a website. Exact coverage is plan-specific. We verify at the visit.

What the fall recare visit includes

The visit is still a professional cleaning and exam with the team that already knows the chart. When an Oral Health Scan is due, it is included at no extra charge. The iTero scanner captures a 3D model of the teeth and bite so we can compare this season with last year — wear, chips, crowding, or small shifts that are easy to miss on a quick look.

X-rays are taken only when they are due. If it has been longer than six months, the visit still counts as recare for existing patients. No new-patient paperwork.

New patients and the $99 special

If you are not yet a patient at Smile Dentistry or Simply Smile, the New Patient Special is $99 for the exam, cleaning, and necessary X-rays. It is available to new patients only and is not valid with insurance. Once you are in the practice, future visits follow the normal recare path.

Straightening and whitening stay separate

Some families who come in for fall recare also ask about clear aligners or whitening. Invisalign treatment for kids or adults is $4,979. The only add-on is the IPE appliance at $749 when a growing child needs it. Professional whitening is $399 in-office or $249 take-home. Those are planned only after we have a clear picture of the current bite and enamel.

Free SmileView simulations and free consults remain available. Start on the Invisalign page.

What to bring this week

1. The sports mouthguard if there is one — even if it has been in the bag since last season.
2. Current retainers or aligners.
3. The insurance card if you have one.

Existing patients schedule through the recare page. New patients can start with the $99 New Patient Special.

Fall sports will keep going either way. The recare visit is how the mouthguard, the bite, and the leftover preventive visit get handled before the year-end rush.
