The First 24–48 Hours
- You may experience some tenderness, sensitivity to temperature, or mild bleeding when brushing.
- Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and brush very gently.
- Rinse with warm salt water (1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water) 2–3 times a day for the first 48 hours.
- Take any prescribed antibiotics or pain medication exactly as directed.
Ongoing Gum Care (First Week+)
- Continue excellent oral hygiene — this treatment works best when you keep the area clean.
- Floss or use interdental brushes carefully in treated areas.
- Avoid tobacco products and limit alcohol — both slow healing.
- Eat a soft diet for the first few days (yogurt, soup, mashed potatoes, eggs).
- Use any prescribed antimicrobial rinse (e.g. Peridex) if given.
