First 24–48 Hours After Implant Surgery
- Bite on gauze for 30–60 minutes. Some bleeding/oozing is normal.
- Apply ice to the face (20 min on/off) to minimize swelling.
- Take all prescribed antibiotics and pain medication as directed.
- Rest and keep your head elevated when lying down.
- Avoid disturbing the surgical site with your tongue or fingers.
First 1–2 Weeks
- Soft foods only (no chewing on the implant side). Yogurt, soup, eggs, pasta, smoothies.
- No smoking or alcohol — these dramatically increase failure risk.
- Gentle salt water rinses several times daily after the first 24 hours.
- Brush other teeth normally; be extremely careful around the surgical area.
- Do not wear removable dentures or flippers over the site unless we specifically approve.
Longer-Term Healing
The implant needs 3–6 months to fully integrate with bone before the final crown is placed. Keep all follow-up appointments. Excellent oral hygiene and regular cleanings are essential for long-term success.
