The First Few Days
- It is completely normal for new dentures to feel bulky, cause extra saliva, or affect speech and chewing at first.
- Wear them as much as possible during the day (even if sore) so your mouth adjusts faster. Remove at night for the first week or as instructed.
- Eat soft foods cut into small pieces. Chew on both sides. Progress to firmer foods gradually.
Cleaning Your Dentures
- Remove and rinse dentures after meals.
- Brush daily with a soft denture brush and non-abrasive denture cleaner (or mild dish soap). Never use regular toothpaste — it scratches.
- Soak overnight in a denture cleaning solution or plain water.
- Brush your gums, tongue, and palate every day with a soft toothbrush to keep tissues healthy.
Sore Spots & Adjustments
New dentures almost always need adjustments. If you develop sore spots, call us — do not try to adjust them yourself. We can usually relieve pressure spots quickly.
Long-Term Tips
Continue regular dental visits even with dentures. We check fit, oral tissues, and can reline or replace when needed. Good care makes your dentures last longer and keeps your mouth healthy.
